For the early years Eric was into John Martyn, Roy Harper, Al Stewart, Bob Dylan and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and Joni Mitchell. Eric was an acoustic guitarist, and along with Chris Hales, the two of them played as a duo for a few gigs in London folk clubs. Eric used to go down to a Club called Les Cousins in Greek St for the all night sessions that John Martyn was famed for. Sammy Mitchell ,the slide guitarist, was another worth mentioning. The introduction of Reggae to Eric’s music was a direct result of his sister Susie going to Dick Shepherd School in Brixton. There, the Jamaican schoolgirls introduced her to Bluebeat and the Ram Jam Club in Brixton Rd, just up the road from Kennington. Susie used to bring back singles for us to listen to. “ The first single I ever bought was “ Rudy’s Dead” and I can’t remember who it was by. It was a great song” Eric, after leaving Westminster School, studied dentistry at Guy’s in south London and after qualifying began working as a dentist in Peckham and Brixton, the home of Jamaican Reggae in the UK. While working there he picked up the beats and listened to their patois that influenced his rhythms.
