Eric managed to get into Westminster School mainly because of
his language skills. There he met Chris
Hales who at the age of 13 who was into accoustic guitar,
James Lascelles who was a keyboard player and drummer,
and Adam Sieff who was a guitarist.
Also at the school was Stephen Lipson, the
Producer, Malcolm Bowden a writer
/ lyricist, and Patrick Quirke,
a bass player. Befriended by Adam Sieff, another player was introduced
named Mike Sheppard, who was at St
Paul’s school, played a vital role in Eric’s music as a friend,
bass player and producer. Stephen Lipson produced tracks for Eric
before he became famous for producing Frankie
Goes to Hollywood/ Simple Minds/ Annie Lennox.etc. One
of the tracks that Stephen produced was a track called “Poverty
Line”, co-written by Stephen, Malcolm and Eric, and recorded at
Ridge Farm, a state of the art studio that had spawned Gerry Rafferty,
the Beat and many other great bands. Through Stephen’s connections
with Hugh Murphy the producer of
Gerry Rafferty, Raph
Ravenscroft, the sax player on Gerry’s “Baker St”, was
introduced to the team that composed the players on “Poverty Line”.
This single was released in the 80’s and introduced Eric to the
airwaves having been play-listed by BBC Radio 1 and 2.
